Miss Fix It

Kate is really into fixing things lately. She goes around fixing things herself, and she loves to help Sean and I anytime we are fxing anything. Sean was replacing some of our door knobs and she of course wanted to help. Here she is using the drill. Of course sometimes she is a little too helpful, but we still love her enthusiasm!

Trip to the Emergency Room

Last night Sean started having an intense pain in his side/back. Kate was sitting with him on the couch when he got up suddenly in pain. Kate was so worried about him. He was kneeling at the couch in pain and she went right over to him and started rubbing his back and saying, "what happened to Daddy?" and saying, "sorry". After explaining that she didn't do anything, she was still very worried and just wanted to see him. She cried every time he left her sight.

After vomiting and rolling around on the floor in pain, I took him to the ER. On the way there Sean said that if this pain is anything like giving birth then he doesn't want me to have any more kids because he doesn't want me to be in that kind of pain. Luckily when we got there we were the only ones there so we didn't have to wait, they took us right back. We got checked in and they asked about his symptoms, Sean said he thought it was kidney stones. They told him he as doing the "kidney stone dance", moving all around in pain, obviously they see this a lot.

They took us back and gave him some pain meds that made him feel much better. After running some tests and doing a CT scan they found that he does have a kidney stone. They said there is just one in there and it will take anywhere from a few hours to a few days to pass. So, with another shot of morphine and some pain pills they sent us on our way. One day down and still waiting...we hope the pain meds don't run out before this thing passes (although they did say we could come back for more)!

Painting...

Last weekend we decided to finally paint the balusters and handrails in our house. We have wanted to since we moved into our house. They were pretty beat up and there were 3 balusters that were missing when we moved in. Sean and my brother Ben replaced the missing ones last year, but they weren't stained or anything, so it just looked bad. While we were painting, I realized that I am not a painter. I think it is too repetitive. The thought of priming the whole thing, and then knowing that you have to paint the whole thing too, and possibly paint another coat on top of that just makes me crazy! But, Sean and I got it done, and we even let Kate help a little. We started on Friday night with priming it and then we painted most of the day and evening Saturday to finish up. We are glad we did it, it definately looks better than it did before!

Last Trip of the Summer

This past weekend we went on a last minute trip up to Stanley, ID. We left on Thursday afternoon after Sean got off work and came home on Sunday. We had a great time! Growing up my family used to go there every year to stay in a cabin that was owned by my cousins' grandpa. We would go there to spend time with my Dad's sister and her family. We just found out last week that we would be able to go to the cabin this week if we wanted. I really wanted to go because I hadn't been there for 9 years! I also wanted to show Sean and Kate where I spent a week every summer.

On Friday we went to the Sawtooth Fish Hatchery with Tina, Jonathon, Joseph, Ellen, and Halle. The kids had a fun time looking at all the fish. They were even able to feed the fish. The picture below is of them feeding the fish - Kate, Jonathon, and Halle. There was a little kids fishing pond there so the kids were able to go fishing. Kate mostly wanted to hold the fishing pole and reel in the line all by herself. She caught her first fish - thanks to Daddy for getting the worm on the hook and helping to reel it in before it got away. We spent the rest of the day checking out a local shop and relaxing at the cabin while the kids napped. It was great weather and the view was beautiful! I wish I would have gotten a great picture. A fire started on Friday evening so our view was obstructed from the smoke, I was very disappointed.

On Saturday we went to Redfish Lake. It is a beautiful lake with an amazing view, too bad all the smoke covering it doesn't do it justice. Kate and Jonathon had fun playing in the sand and water. I was so glad there was sand to play in instead of sticky mud! Of course Kate enjoyed collecting sticks more than anything. We had a fun time! We spent the rest of the afternoon, early evening in Ketchum and Sun Valley looking at the different shops. On the way back we stopped at the Salmon Festival just down the road from the cabin. There were a few booths to browse, so we picked up some kettle corn and I found a pair of earrings that I had to have!

It was a short trip but we had a great time spending time with family! In the 9 years since I have been there, nothing had changed in Stanley, except for at the cabin. It was good to reminisce. Hopefully we'll be back again and maybe we'll get to stay longer!

Spending the day at Deer Creek

On Saturday we went boating at Deer Creek with my sister Tina and her family. We had a great time. It was so nice to be out on the water. Since Tina and I are both pregnant, neither one of us ventured into the water to perform any stunts, but Sean and Jared got in for a bit. Kate and Jonathon had fun (most of the time), but they did want to strip their life jackets off, of course even before we got them on completely. I had to keep pointing out to Kate the other kids that had life jackets on to get her to keep it on. Of course, she'll go around the house with it on for quite a while, but the second she has to wear it, forget it.

We hung out on shore for a while and let the kids play in the sticky mud (wish I could say sand). It was so sticky, we were wearing flip flops and of course they got stuck in the mud. I couldn't believe how sticky it was. I used to go there as a kid and I don't remember it being that muddy - of course, the water was much higher back then, which probably has something to do with it. It took my clean freak Kate a little convincing that it was okay to get dirty and get mud on her hands and that we would just wash it off when she was finished. Finally, she got some playing time in, mostly interested in collecting rocks in her bucket. She makes me laugh! We definitely wore her out though, by the time we were done eating lunch and playing she was asking for a nap and kept snuggling (as she calls it) in her towel to fall asleep.

Happy Birthday Sean!

Today was Sean's 29th birthday. He had to work today so it wasn't the most exciting day for him, but he did get to spend some time with family tonight to celebrate. We opted out of going out to dinner and just made steaks at home - they were delicious! So much better than we would have gotten if we went out (which is why we chose that route). I am so blessed to have Sean in my life. He is an incredible husband and father and I am so grateful for all that he does for our family. Happy Birthday Sean, we love you!

Brothers Gotta Hug

Sean's brother Ryan and his wife Lacey and their little boy Leif came for a visit this past weekend. Ryan is in the Air Force and they are moving to Turkey next month. We had a good visit with them. Leif is such a cute little boy! It was good to spend a couple days with them before they take off. We would like to make a trip over there while they are there - since it would likely be the only time we would ever make it over to that part of the world, but we're not sure whether or not that will happen. Those tickets are pricey and the plane ride is sooo long! We hope they have a great time over there, and hopefully everything goes smoothly with the move!

It's a...BOY!!!

We went in for my 20 week ultrasound on Friday and found out that we are having a baby boy! We are really excited! I asked Kate a few days before the ultrasound if we were going to have a baby boy or a baby girl and she said, "baby boy". Then I asked her the morning of the ultrasound and she still said a baby boy. Kind of funny. It seems a little weird to be having a boy because all of our "expertise" in parenting is with our little girl. This will be a little different but I'm sure we'll adjust just fine. For any of you that are wondering, no, we haven't picked out a name, and no, I'm not just saying that because we don't want to tell you. :-) I'm open to suggestions!
